Frontline Plus vs K9 Advantix II For Dogs

When it comes to comprehensive flea and tick medications for Dogs there are two main contenders. Frontline Plus and K9 Advantix II. Both offer great protection, and both are very popular.

I, Chip the wonder Dog, am going to give you a full comparison between the two products, so that you can make a proper decision as to what to use. I have had both applied to me, and both are very effective, so I am in a position to give you the real truth. Dogs do not often get to air their opinion, so stay tuned to hear it from those that matter, us, the Dogs that get it applied to them whether we like it or not!

I have written extensively about both products already, describing how they work, and answered common questions, so be sure to read the articles. I also provide links to let you buy for discount prices. And there we have it folks. A quick way to compare Frontline Plus and K9 Advantix II.

Let’s take a look at the results in more detail.

Which Is Best

Well, actually just recently I have been having K9 Advantix II rather than Frontline Plus. I have had Frontline for years but now Karen, who owns this site, has decided that this is the better option.

Well, it also protects against biting flies which can cause all manner of problems for Dogs in certain areas, most notably it can stop leishmania from happening, and that is very serious indeed. It helps to cut the risk of sand flies biting dramatically, so is the best medication for this kind of prevention.

But not only that, Advantix II also stops most mosquitoes biting as well. It is not fool-proof, but it is a great help.

Mosquitoes can infect heartworm larvae into Dogs, and then in time they can develop heartworm disease. It is not 100% effective though so a cheap heartworm medicine should also be used, Nuheart heartworm medicine being the cheapest.

Flea and Tick Protection

For guarding against repeat attacks of fleas and ticks, and for killing existing ones, then both options are equally good. I have found that after now having had both options applied at different times they both work just as well. Although I am not a stinky Dog, I do get fleas now and then, and both meds work quickly to clear up the problem.

But Advantix does seem to work a little bit quicker, so it gets the paws up from me.

But overall the results will be the same, no fleas and no ticks. Both kill at all stages of the life-cycle so will ensure that once we are free of them we remain clean and clear of them for a month at least.

Length Of Protection

The one thing I will say is that Frontline Plus does seem to protect against fleas for a little longer than Advantix II. Normally it protects for a few months, but both seem to only protect against ticks for about a month.

But this could just be me. Different Dogs seem to react differently to medications. Some can be protected for a month, some for longer. So this is simply down to trial and error really.

Both are applied topically. This means directly to the skin on our backs, where we cannot lick it if we are a naughty Dog (I am NOT!).

It only takes a minute at the most, so there is no difference between the two.

Which Is Cheaper Frontline Plus Or K9 Advantix II?

Ah, so it is all about the prices is it?

OK, I understand, people need to be careful with their money. Actually Advantix II is a little bit cheaper, you can compare the two by going to each article I linked to at the top and clicking my nose, both are available at amazing discounts.

The Winner?

Overall, K9 Advantix II is better than Frontline Plus in my opinion. But only by a very small margin. Both are very effective but my pick also guards against Dogs getting leishmania and against mosquitoes too, so I nominate it Chip’s top pick!

Appreciate your input…was wondering if you ever heard of Frontline is a UK product that is sold in Canada and suggests it is the same as Frontline Plus?

    Again, thanks.

    • Chip says:

Hi Peter, it is the same as Frontline Plus, just under a different name for the UK market. It will work just as well. The ingredients are exactly the same.

I use to use K9 Advantix II but I am being told that it is not safe for pregnant nor whelping females. so I had to switch to front line plus. can you confirm this.
