This is great news, it makes it easier for everyone, but we must be sure that we don’t already have heartworm disease before we begin to use any form of heartworm medicine. No RX is going to mean that you can buy very quickly and get this medication very quickly.

Best Price

I have done everything that I can to find the absolute lowest price for this medication. We are a cheap pet meds site after all.

Why The Chewable Option?

heartgard plus no RX

Now, there is a more basic version of Heartgard for Dogs, and there are lots of other heartworm medicines to choose from as well. So why should we buy a chewable option?

Because I love the taste!!!

OK, all joking aside. The Dog that you live with may be just like me. We hate having to have a pill. Karen, the Woman I live with, even stuck a pill in my mouth, and then held my muzzle closed, and massaged my throat! Can you imagine that? I showed her though, I spat out the pill as soon as she let go!

Hee hee.

Us Dogs don’t like being given pills to swallow. So the Chewable option is a must buy for all discerning people.

Lovely Meaty Flavor

The Heartgard  Plus chewables without a vet’s prescription is the absolute best choice for Dogs. I love the taste, it’s BEEF! Plus they are nice and soft and squidgy too. Drool.

I keep sitting there being a good boy after I have eaten my treat, but I am never allowed to have another one. I know this is for a very good reason but I still want more, they taste so nice.

But once a month is how often us Dogs need a heartworm medicine, and never more frequently than that, so I know this is the right thing to do.

Heartgard Plus Chewable Information

There is a very serious side to this medication. It is imperative that all Dogs get given either this or one of the many other heartworm medicine options every month. They need to be protected. So, here is the information that you need to know. I will also answer common questions later on as well. Many people simply do not know enough about the medications they give to their pets. And there are always lots of questions to be answered.

What Does The Heartgard Plus Chewable Protect Against?

First and foremost it is to protect Dogs against heartworm disease. It will eliminate the problem if they become infected as long as it is given regularly.

It will also control:

  • Roundworms
  • Hookworms

If you want to treat for all common intestinal worms then take a look at the cheap Panacur C for Dogs option.

Active Ingredients

Heartgard Plus chewables contain Ivermectin, an anti-parasitic medication to control heartworm disease and Pyrantel Pamoate, an anthelminthic to control roundworms and hookworms. Wow! Big words.

This chewable is meant to be chewed and not swallowed whole. I am a bit of a “gulper” of my food, I can’t help it, so if the Dog being medicated is like me then it must be broken into pieces and fed to the hungry pooch. It should not be swallowewd whole. And it is very important that people ensure that the whole chewable is given once a month to keep Dogs safe.

Will Heartgard Plus chewables stop my Dog getting heartworms?

No heartworm medicines stop Dogs getting heartworms. They are infected by a disease carrying mosquito. We can never stop this 100%. But when infected the larvae are tiny, and takes months to develop and turn into the scary heartworms that can make us ill. So, if we get given our meds monthly then the worms are killed off before they can grow, and make their way to the heart. Urggh! I don’t even want to think about that!

How often to give Heartgard Plus?

It must be given once a month. Never more regularly than that, even though we do love the taste and always want more. But the good news is that it should be given once a month all through the year. Don’t miss any treatments and Dogs are kept frisky and in fine health, and owners don’t have to worry about heartworm disease at all.

What are the possible side effects?

Although side effects are rare, it should be used with caution for Collies. But high doses can be a serious danger, so never give more than the monthly recommendation.

What if I miss a dose?

Give as soon as you remember, as long as you have not missed more than a single month.

Can it be given with other drugs?

Always consult with your Vet. But it should under no circumstances be given if another heartworm medicine is currently being used.

How should Dogs be given Heartgard Plus chewables?

Always by hand, and always the monthly recommendation stated on the pack size. Break into pieces of you have a greedy Dog like me, it must be chewed, not swallowed.

Does TatoChip actually sell Heartgard Plus chewables?

No, Karen set up this site to let owners know where to buy Heartgard Plus online. But she let me and Tato loose to actually tell you all she has learned. We don’t sell the meds, we just let you know who does, at discount prices.

Where is it shipped from?

We change the suppliers we recommend as prices change or companies change. So we can never be sure. But normally it is shipped from Canada. Prices are much cheaper, so owners make great savings. Click buy at the top of the page to see the current company recommended and to read more about them.

How Is Heartgard Plus without a prescription an option?

It is because the companies that ship do so from jurisdictions that do not require an rx.

Who is it for?

All Dogs over the age of 6 weeks. And even pregnant and breeding females too!

How to store?

You should store Heartgard Plus at at between 68°F-77°F (20°C-25°C). Ensure it is kept out of the reach of children and pets. It is very appealing to young children and naughty Dogs alike.

I was trying to navigate on the website to locate where to get Heartgard Plus and Frontline Plus for my dogs, but can’t seem to find them.

Thank you VERY much. I am 67 and on social security so funds are tight. Had the dogs tested first at vet, bought a few heartgard and looked for something less expensive.
    You are a TREASURE!!!!!

  3. mark says:

What we want to do to save costs is buy the Heart Guard for the next larger size dog from ours and split the dose in half for an exact dose for our smaller dog. We can’t get our vet to go along with this. Is there any problem giving the 1/2 dosage of the larger dog size medication as opposed to giving the normal full dose for our size dog?

    • admin says:

Hi Mark, as long as the dose is exactly the same as if you’d bought the normal full dose for a smaller dog then you should be fine, in theory. The problem is that the medication may not be evenly distributed throughout the chewable or pill, so there is a small (albeit unlikely) chance that your dog won’t get exactly the right dosage. Good question, sorry I couldn’t say for certain what you wanted to hear!
